New single vineyard releases

‘Vintage 2024 was the lowest yielding vintage we have experienced and from discussions with many of the older growers in the region I think its safe to say its up there with the lightest of years. Luckily it is commonly agreed upon by winemakers that lower yields can often make wines of immense power and expression of site terroir. This sure is true from 2024 as these are some of the deepest and most savory Pinot noir's we have ever bottled and the Chardonnays really pack a punch. I was sitting down for a tasting with the local publicans yesterday and it was so great to look at these wines side by side and once again see how extremely unique and expressive they each are.’ - Gentle Folk Wines

2024 Piccadilly Chardonnay

A new vineyard for us in 2024, the St James vineyard sits just below Mount Lofty in the heart of Piccadilly. True to style, this wine has the classic Piccadilly power and flair along with citrus, melons, ripe fruit, a hint of new oak and impressive acid…a complete package and the reason this part of the Hills is often referred to as the “Grand Cru” section.

'From a single site in Piccadilly on clay quartz sandstone.

This is both a rich release and a release that needs some extra time – to integrate further, as much as anything. It’s going to be stellar in a few years. It tastes of white and yellow peach, tonic water, cedarwood oak and toast, with spearmint, salted chalk and crushed rock characters in the mix too. The mouthfeel of this wine and the power of fruit are both of emphatic note. There’s some glory to this chardonnay.'

2024 Scary Gully Chardonnay

Scary Gully has a fine boned line from the shallow rocky soils its grown on high up in Forest Range. The wine is all about the minerality with hints of lime, fennel seeds, alpine hebs and white peach. Its driven, it’s distinct, it’s one of the great sites in the Adelaide Hills. Sadly, the yields from 2024 were minuscule and there are limited bottles, but the resulting wine has length and drive we have not seen before from this site.

Vineyard: Scary Gully, Forest Range
Planted: 1994
Clones: i10v1 & Entav 84
Elevation: 620m
Aspect: South East

'This is from an elevated site (620 metres) that was planted in 1994.

Excellent wine. Gentle Folk is an outstanding producer full stop, but it’s especially good with chardonnay. Nougat, white peach, popcorn, nashi pear and cedar characters come whispers with honey, brine and toast. There’s both a power and a presence to this wine, along with excellent/exceptional length. Give this another couple of years in bottle and this will be quite something.'

2024 Monomeith Pinot Noir

One of the great and distinctive vineyards of the Adelaide Hills, and certainly one of the coolest. Monomeith sits in its own very cool valley on the top ridge of Ashton and the vines benefit from an east-west orientation, where part of the vineyard gets the morning sun and the other half the afternoon sun. This results in a wine with great depth, complexity and all the classic aromatics of great Adelaide Hills Pinot noir.

Vineyard: Monomeith, Ashton
Planted: 1996
Clones: MV6, 777, 114 and 115
Elevation: 530m
Aspect: E and W
Soil: Light loamy clay over sandstone with extensive quartz

Vinification: 20% whole cluster open top fermentation with twice daily pumpovers for two to three weeks followed by pressing and then 10 months in French oak, 20% new, before racking to tank or three months and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Bottled: 26 May 2025

2024 Scary Gully Pinot Noir

The Pinot noir at Scary Gully is one of the highest and oldest in the Adelaide Hills and sits upon a ridge of sandstone and quartz . The steepness of the site, and hence “Scary”, means there are often some serious farming challenges in wet years. However, the 2024 season was mild and dry, and although yields were low, the grapes were pristine, and the resulting wine is beautifully balanced, perfumed and pure, all hallmarks of a great season for the site.

Vineyard: Scary Gully, Forest Range
Planted: 1984
Clones: MV6, D5V12, POMMARD and GM8
Elevation: 560m
Aspect: West, East & North
Soil: Quartz, sandstone & clay.

Harvest date: 11 & 18 March 2024
Bottled: 26 May 2025
Vineyard location: 34°57’13”S 138°47’14”EAlc: 13.8% pH: 3.54 TA: 6.1 g/L

'It’s the fine-grained tannin that really gets you over the line. It’s attached to complex fruit, and undergrowth, and saltbush, and assorted herb and umami notes, but it’s the finesse of that tannin and the way the fruit keeps on flowing through it that makes you stop to admire. there’s also a layer of smoky, cedarwood oak evident in this wine but, given an extra year or two, this too will sink in and down, and this wine will then feel complete.'

2024 Little Creek Pinot Noir

Little Creek sits in its own valley just over the hill from Monomeith -but it is its own beast. The vine density is double and the soil muchmore rocky that that of its neighbours. This usually shows throughin the wine having more fruit density, with much darker and earthiercharacters. This is true again in 2024 where the near perfect growingseason, although low yielding, has grown a wine that is true to LittleCreek, yet with a great purity that seems to be common in the vintage.

2024 Onkaparinga Valley Sangiovese

Its so great to be able to work with grapes that are as loved and meticulously farmed as these twenty-seven year old vines from the boniest and highest section of the Turnbull Family Vineyard in Charleston. This is the second rendition of this wine and its a ripper. Some more meatiness and red fruit than the cool and late 2023 vintage, but still showing plenty of delicate aromatics, spiciness and tannins. Its such a great variety for the region and we hope to see more of it going into the ground and mouths in the future.

Vineyard: Turnbull, Charleston
Planted: 1998
Clones: H6V9
Elevation: 460m
Aspect: North
Soil: Sandy loam over siltstone & sandstone

2024 Father's Milk Gamay Pinot Noir

It is always with mixed emotions that we release this collaboration wine with our neighbors at Ochota Barrels. But one thing is always assured... there will be a very long lunch at every step of the way, kid chaos, dog madness, nice wine, cat memes, tins of cold beer that taste like cold beer...and a little nip of Calvados at the end. This will be happening again today as we label and box up this years wine. A great Friday ahead.

Just the way Taras would have loved it.

Its once again a blend of Piccadilly Gamay planted by Taras way back before Gamay was cool, as well as Pinot noir from Monomeith. 100% whole bunch 100% no worries.
