Anton van Klopper resides deep in the Adelaide Hills on a small acreage high in Basket Range. Here he tends his own plot of Pinot Noir that has been planted to a mix of clonal material, on own rootstock, totally unirrigated and biodynamically farmed. The same philosophy extends to the various other Adelaide Hills sites he sources from, whereupon all fruit is hand-picked, destemmed, wines are left untouched, including lots of whole bunch, whites on skin and totally unadulterated natural wines are the result.

Anton’s philosophy is centred in the natural wine movement, despite many years spent working in Oregon, Pfalz and at Leasingham at big houses, Anton’s desire to create hand-crafted wines that are inextricably linked with food is paramount. If you can find your way to Anton’s house (trust me it’s a bare-knuckled ride!) you will be greeted with food from the garden and wines hand-made, hand-bottled and hand-labelled. You could call him a garagiste, naturaliste, philosopher, dreamer, visionary or Wildman but don’t call him a winemaker; the wines make themselves.
