Marlborough’s Wairau River (pronounced why-raow) has carved an intricate braided pattern of channels on its path to the Pacific Ocean. It is on these riverbanks that Phil and Chris Rose planted their first vines in 1978. Meticulous management of the family estate ensures only exceptional parcels of fruit are destined for the flagship Wairau River label. Since 1977 the Roses had the utmost confidence in the quality of the grapes produced from the stoney, free-draining soils found close to the Wairau River. After initially producing fruit as growers, in 1991 they decided to launch the Wairau River label. Sauvignon Blanc continues the Marlborough legacy along with Pinot Noir and aromatic whites such as Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurrztraminer.
